INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The world's third-richest man will be in Indianapolis on Wednesday to help celebrate the revitalization of a north side neighborhood.
Warren Buffett, investment guru, philanthropic leader and a co-founder of Purpose Built Communities, will join Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to mark the opening of East Village at Avondale, a mixed-income apartment community. The project is part of a revitalization effort in the historic Meadows neighborhood, near 38th Street and Keystone Avenue.
Purpose Built Communities is working with Strategic Capital Partners on the project, which aims, according to the organization's website , to "replace concentrated poverty with a mix of affordable and market-rate rental and owner-occupied homes."
The ongoing effort also aims to build a community park, community cardents and a community center, and to promote two charter schools in the area, Challenge Foudnation Academy and Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School.
