INDIANAPOLIS - The Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD) announced today the City has awarded the contract to demolish Winona Hospital to Denney Excavating, which submitted the lowest responsive bid at $695,289. Representatives from DMD, Office of Corporation Counsel, Office of Finance and Management Purchasing Division, and the Department of Minority and Women Business Development reviewed the nine bids received for the project. Demolition is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 10.
"Today marks the latest step in our efforts to take down unsalvageable structures and create a path for future development," said Mayor Greg Ballard. "We are taking on some of the city's biggest eyesores - Keystone Towers, Winona Hospital, Bush Stadium and hundreds of abandoned homes in neighborhoods across Indianapolis - to make way for redevelopment and create new opportunities for businesses and our residents."
Denney Excavating now has 90 days to complete the contract. The demolition is funded by a part of the $8 million in federal Neighborhood Stabilization Plan 3 grants awarded to the City of Indianapolis by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Due to environmental concerns with the property, the plan calls for conventional demolition with heavy equipment.
