A new recycling effort will be launched at Lucas Oil Stadium during the 2011 Indianapolis Colts season, city officials announced today.
"RecyclingIndy" aims to encourage fans to deposit empty bottles and cans into one of more than 200 recycling bins throughout the stadium.
"This outreach effort will encourage fans to embrace recycling at Lucas Oil Stadium by placing their empty bottles and cans into the recycling bins rather than discarding them in the trash," Mayor Greg Ballard said in a release.
The "RecyclingIndy" logo will be co-branded onto the already existing "Give it Back" recycling bins provided by Coca-Cola.
"As the largest organization utilizing the stadium we have a responsibility to set the standard for our fans," Tom Zupancic, senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Colts, said in the release.
Lucas Oil recycled more than 22 percent of its waste in 2010. The new effort is supported by a $42,600 Environmental Protection Agency grant awarded to the city in October 2010 to boost recycling at sports arenas.
