Mayor announces 56th Street Bridge repair project 7.25.11
FOX 59
Indianapolis - City leaders announced the repair of 27 Indianapolis bridges, including one on the city's northwest side, Monday morning.
Leaders plan to spend about $1 million to fix an aging bridge on the northwest side, among others. The 56th Street Bridge over Eagle Creek Reservoir was built back in the 1960s but hasn't been repaired since 1984. The bridge's deck is deteorating, railings are missing and the land around it is starting to erode.
Construction crews will replace the broken parts and will make upgrades.
"Not only is this bridge getting done, but 27 bridges across the city will get done this year and that's the important piece that we want everybody to remember," Mayor Greg Ballard said.
Traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction during the project. It's not clear how long the repair work will take.
