INDIANAPOLIS STAR
If you have a need for speed but don't require a motor, check out the Mayor's Cup Race at 8 a.m. today at the Wilbur Shaw Soap Box Derby Hill.
Participants at the event will not only be able to race Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard , they can also check out the newly resurfaced track at the hill, located on the city's Westside at 3001 Cold Spring Road, across the street from Marian College.
The track resurfacing was paid for by the city through the mayor's RebuildIndy initiative, meant to provide safer, more sustainable recreational and transportation options for residents.
At 1,000 feet long, the Wilbur Shaw Soap Box Derby Hill is the longest Soap Box Derby track in the country. It was built in 1953.
