The section of downtown Indianapolis deemed "Super Bowl Village" is on schedule for an October completion date.
Mayor Greg Ballard and members of the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee Tuesday highlighted progress on the Georgia St. Improvements Project from the top floor of the World of Wonders parking garage.
"We're a little over halfway through contruction, and there's a lot changing every day," said Allison Melangton, president and CEO of the Host Committee.
The work includes the reconstruction of three blocks of Georgia Street from Pennsylvania Street to Capitol Avenue and will provide pedestrian access from the Indiana Convention Center to Conseco Fieldhouse.
"When it's finished, what was once a four-lane road will now be a two-lane road with a pedestrian mall down the middle and a centerpiece for major events for the city," Ballard said.
Other features include bike racks and sustainable infrastructure that will divert storm water in that area from the sewer system.
