Fallen Indianapolis Metro Police Officer has street renamed in his honor 5.23.11

FOX 59

Family, friends, and members of local law enforcement gathered to celebrate Officer David Moore's life and service to the city of Indianapolis by renaming a street in his honor.  Rural Street, between 30th and 34th, will now be known as Officer David S. Moore Memorial Parkway.

Moore was shot while on duty last January.  He died from his injuries a few days later.
Officials selected the street because it is near where he was shot.  It also leads to the Metro Police's North District headquarters.

Officer Moore’s parents, Spencer and Jo attended the ceremony. His mother Jo, a Sergeant with the Metro Police said she saw similar signs in Florida, and people asked her how to find out more about the fallen officers.

“I just can't help but think that's what's going happen with this sign.  More people are going to find out about our officers who have died throughout the state and throughout the nation,” Moore said.

Officer Moore's parents will lead a fundraising walk on Sunday, along the Downtown Canal, to raise awareness of organ donation.

After his death, David Moore was able to donate his organs to several people, saving their lives.
