City crews patch nearly 10,000 potholes 4.19.11

WISH-TV

The Indianapolis Department of Public Works, with help from private contractors, has patched potholes in more than 9,800 spots in residential areas since March 7, working 12-hour shifts six days a week.
At Mayor Greg Ballard’s request, regional paving contractor Rieth-Riley Construction Co. opened its two asphalt plants nearly a month earlier than usual, giving the city early access to hot asphalt, a more permanent solution to potholes than the patching material used in colder weather.
Pothole season is still in full swing, though. DPW said peak season usually begins in March and lasts until June. DPW will continue to patch main thoroughfares. Residents and commuters can report potholes online , or call the Mayor’s Action Center, 327-4MAC.
