Indianapolis -- Mayor Greg Ballard announced five winners of the city's annual awards for environmentally friendly initiatives at a luncheon Thursday.
The Sustainability Awards' Air category award went to the city's transit agency for its IndyGo Green Initiative, which upgraded vehicles and facilities and increased ridership by more than 3 percent last year. The Hagerman Group and the Indianapolis Museum of Art won in the Land category for 100 Acres: The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park.
The Water category award went to HealthNet for its Southwest Health and Dental Center, housed in a renovated 103-year-old Masonic lodge with eco-friendly features. The Nature Conservancy won in the Energy category for the Efroymson Conservation Center, its new energy-efficient headquarters.
And in the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" category, the Indianapolis Indians baseball team won for a recycling program that collected nearly 18 tons of plastic, aluminum and glass at Victory Field during the 2010 season.
The program is sponsored by the city's Office of Sustainability, the McKinney Green Initiatives Fund and the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce.
