Gov. Daniels endorses Mayor Ballard 11.1.11

INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Greg Ballard is picking up a valuable endorsement from the governor Tuesday.
Gov. Mitch Daniels and Mayor Ballard held a rally at noon outside the City Market and the City-County Building. The governor endorsed Ballard at the event.

Democratic challenger Melina Kennedy has already picked up endorsements from The Indianapolis Star and the Fraternal Order of Police. The Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce has endorsed Mayor Ballard for a second term.

Several hundred Ballard supporters turned out for a lunchtime rally at City Market.

Eyewitness News asked the mayor what Daniels' endorsement meant to his campaign.

"I think people are recognizing what the city has gone through in the last four years; the transformation that people have seen. The governor understands that and certainly wants the capital city to be strong.

And people have really been pleased with what we've done in the past four years," the mayor said.
Mayor Ballard also said he expected many of the people who turned up at the rally to go across the street to the county clerk's office for early voting.

Kennedy's campaign said they found it ironic to hear the mayor touting early voting when he opposed satellite voting.
