The city of Indianapolis filed a 50-count complaint today against a landlord for alleged health and zoning code violations at 15 rental properties.
The lawsuit field in Marion Superior Court contends that several apartments owned by Peter Kisenko pose a public nuisance.
"This is a major step to address unsafe, hazardous properties that present health and safety risks," Mayor Greg Ballard said at a news conference outside one of the buildings, in the 2700 block of North Denny Street.
Kisenko, an Indianapolis landlord since the 1980s, could not be reached immediately for comment.
The house on Denny has been cited in the past for a damaged roof, flaking paint, overgrown weeds and rubbish and junk in the backyard.
The suit asks that Kisenko be ordered to bring the buildings up to code. Kisenko faces fines of up to $300,000 if found in violation of city codes.
